ANCCE 'approved for breeding' (APTO)
ANCCE breeding approval accreditation is only presented to pure Spanish horses (PRE). Horses must be 3 years and over, be inscribed into the Spanish Studbook (ANCCE) and have approved breeding parents. The vast revision process determines whether the horse meets the minimum confirmation and movement requirements set by the Spanish government (ANCCE). If one or both parents are not approved, then their offspring cannot be inscribed into the ANCCE Spanish Stud Book and therefore cannot be approved for breeding.
APSL 'approved for breeding'
APSL breeding approval accreditation is only presented to Purebred Lusitano horses. On the revision day, Lusitano stallions are shown in morphology and functionality where their movement without rider and confirmation is assessed and graded. This process also involves measurements of particular body structures of the stallion to ensure they fall within the expected correct margins for the Lusitano breed. Stallions are to be ridden to show their functionality as a riding horse in walk, trot and canter. A semen sample of the stallion must be collected via AI and tested before the revision process to check the quality of volume and motility.
Lusitano mares are assessed at their stud farm. They undergo the same revision process as that of the Lusitano stallion. However, they are not required to be ridden. Stallions and mares are to have approved parents; if one or both parents are not approved for breeding, their offspring cannot be approved for breeding with APSL.
